Breaking Ground in Gulu: The Next era92 Hub

The ground is broken. The slab is poured. In a town that the world once knew only for war, Era92 is building a home for the next generation of Northern Uganda’s talent — and it’s already coming out of the earth.

There is a particular kind of quiet that comes right after a concrete pour. The mixers stop. The dust settles. And for a moment, everyone on site just looks at it — a clean, level slab where, weeks ago, there was only red earth, scattered hardcore and a row of steel starter bars reaching for the sky.

That moment happened in Gulu. And it means something simple but enormous: we have broken ground, the foundation is complete, and the Era92 Gulu Hub is officially on its way up.

From Kampala to Gulu: the same idea, a new frontier

If you’ve visited the Era92 Hub in Kampala, you already know what we’re reaching for. A light-filled, glass-fronted building where young people don’t just find a desk — they find a community. A place where designers, developers, storytellers and founders share the same room, the same Wi-Fi and the same ambition. The Kampala Hub proved the model: give skilled, hungry young people the right space and the right network, and they will build careers, companies and confidence.

Gulu is the next chapter of that story. The success in Kampala didn’t make us want to do more of the same in the same place — it made us want to take the model where it’s needed most. So we looked north.

Why Gulu — and why now

For two decades, Gulu sat at the centre of one of Africa’s longest conflicts. A generation grew up displaced, schooling interrupted, opportunity put on hold. But anyone who has spent time in Gulu today knows the headline has changed. This is a young, fast-growing, deeply entrepreneurial city — full of people who didn’t just survive the war years but are determined to build something better on the other side of them.

What Gulu has not had enough of is infrastructure for opportunity: modern workspaces, skills training, mentorship and a creative community close to home. Too often, talented young people have had to leave for Kampala to find it. The Era92 Gulu Hub exists to change that — to put a world-class home for skills and enterprise right where the talent already is.

What we’re building — and how it will look

Picture the energy of the Kampala Hub, reimagined for the northern light. We expect the finished Gulu Hub to carry the same signature: a bold, modern facade with generous glazing that floods the interior with daylight, framed by the mango trees already standing on the site. Open, flexible floors for co-working and collaboration. Dedicated rooms for training, workshops and digital skills. Space to gather, to pitch, to launch.

Right now, that future is written in steel and concrete — a finished slab and a forest of column bars marking exactly where the walls will rise. But that’s the magic of a groundbreaking: every great building spends its first chapter looking like a promise. This one is already keeping it.

Part of a bigger mission: 100,000 skilled jobs

The Gulu Hub isn’t a one-off building. It’s one more foundation under a much larger goal: creating 100,000 skilled jobs and equipping a generation of young Africans with the skills, tools and networks to thrive in the modern economy. Every hub we open is another doorway into that vision — another place where a skill becomes a livelihood, and a livelihood becomes a future.

Who the Gulu Hub is for

  • Young people looking to learn in-demand skills — design, technology, digital media and entrepreneurship — without leaving home to get them.
  • Redemptive entrepreneurs and founders building businesses that create jobs and lift up their communities.
  • Anyone looking for space — a desk, a studio, a room to meet, create and collaborate in a professional environment.
  • People searching for community — the makers, dreamers and doers who do their best work alongside others chasing the same kind of future.

Be part of what’s rising

We’ll be sharing every milestone — walls, roof, fit-out and opening day — right here. If you’re a young person ready to build skills, an entrepreneur looking for a base, or a partner who wants to help us reach 100,000 skilled jobs, the Gulu Hub is being built for you.

The ground is broken. The slab is down. We’re moving forward — and we’d love for you to move with us. Get in touch with the Era92 team to learn, partner, or reserve your space in the next chapter of Northern Uganda’s talent story.
