Breaking the cycle of poverty one job at a time

As we reflect on the first half of the year, we are immensely grateful to God and to you for the incredible progress we’ve made. From the outset, we set our goal of building a model for employment in slums across Uganda that develops young people, creates a sense of belonging, and catalyzes creativity and entrepreneurship. This year, we’ve seen this model come to life, successfully implementing the stages of RESCUE // DISCIPLESHIP // SKILL DEVELOPMENT // CAREER PLACEMENT // FINANCING

We are proud of the milestones achieved: we’ve acquired new land for the development of an upcoming academy, created 150+ jobs, onboarding 12 new employment partners, and secured 15 new retainer clients. Thanks to your support, we’ve made significant progress and are excited for what the next half of the year holds. The second quarter has brought numerous initiatives showcasing our ongoing efforts and impact.

In Uganda, one job can change everything for a family. Marvin’s story is a testament to this transformative power. From the streets of Kiwunya to working with an international development organization, Marvin’s journey represents the hundreds of young people we have connected to workplaces this year, highlighting the lasting impact of employment on families in Uganda.

era92 Creative is thriving, building more brands this year than ever before. This growth translates directly into empowering more young people in the slum communities we serve. In the last quarter alone, we have added 31 new members from Elevate to our team and onboarded over 15 new clients. Hear from our Operations Manager, Meaghan, about the progress we’ve made so far.

In the last quarter, era92 Fund took another step toward our vision of democratizing capital. We have always aimed to invest in entrepreneurs with bold intents on eradicating poverty in this generation. Over the past six months, we have invested in three social businesses: One Click Electronics, Huema Furniture (a sustainable interior design company), and 92 Cafe.

We believe investing in other leaders creates a multiplier effect towards our goal of creating more jobs for young people in Uganda.

  • 92 Cafe Opening: In March, we launched the state-of-the-art 92 Cafe in Lungujja, which has quickly become a vibrant hub where community and opportunity meet, 92 cafe now employs 13 young people from our community.
  • Partnership with One Click Computers: Since March, our partnership with One Click Computers has enabled us to provide 45 young people with computers to kickstart their creative careers.

Thanks for continued prayer and support, stay tuned for more updates as we continue to break cycles of poverty in slums by: building community, developing skills, creating jobs and providing capital for people living in slums across Uganda.
